How it works
A side gusset bag opens into a roughly rectangular shape: its face width by its gusset depth. It can't be filled all the way to the top, because the top has to fold or seal closed, and the bag tapers where the gussets fold in.
The estimate uses width × gusset × (height − seal − half the gusset). Real capacity depends on the product: free-flowing coffee beans settle efficiently, bulky items less so. Fill-test a sample bag before ordering in volume.
