Volume is length × width × height. Use the inside dimensions when you want to know how much the box holds, and the outside dimensions when you're working out how much space it takes on a pallet or in a truck.

Is the 'how many fit' count exact?
It's the best simple grid arrangement, with every item facing the same way. Mixed orientations can sometimes fit one or two more, and dividers, inserts or cushioning will reduce the count.
