How it works
GSM (grams per square meter) measures every paper the same way. US pound ratings don't: they're the weight of 500 sheets at a "basis size" that differs by paper type, which is why 80 lb text and 80 lb cover are very different papers.

Frequently asked questions
Is 80 lb cover the same as 80 lb text?
No. 80 lb cover is about 216 gsm, while 80 lb text is about 118 gsm, because the two use different basis sheet sizes.
What GSM is cardstock?
Cardstock usually runs from about 200 to 350 gsm (roughly 74 to 130 lb cover).
