CBM calculator
Calculate cubic meters (CBM) for a shipment and how much of a container it fills.
How it works
CBM (cubic meter) is the standard unit for sea freight. Multiply the carton's length, width and height in meters, then multiply by the number of cartons.
Less-than-container (LCL) shipments are usually priced per CBM, with a minimum of one. For full containers, a 20 ft holds about 25 to 28 m³ of real cargo and a 40 ft about 55 to 60 m³, because cartons never fill every gap. For a carton-by-carton count, use the container loading calculator.
Results are estimates based on typical industry values. Confirm final specifications with your supplier or carrier.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate CBM from inches?
Multiply length × width × height in inches, then divide by 61,024.
How many CBM fit in a 20 ft container?
The internal volume is about 33 m³, but a realistic load is 25 to 28 m³.
