How it works
Shipping weight is more than the product. The box itself, void fill, inserts and tape all add weight, and for small parcels they can make up a surprising share of it. Use the empty box weight calculator if you don't know your box's weight.
If you enter the box's outside dimensions, the calculator also works out dimensional weight and shows which one the carrier will charge. When size wins, a smaller box saves more than lighter materials.
Results are estimates based on typical industry values. Confirm final specifications with your supplier or carrier.

Does packaging count toward shipping weight?
Yes. Carriers bill on the weight of the whole package as tendered.
How do I reduce packed weight?
Use lighter fill such as air pillows, a lighter board grade where strength allows, and a box closer to the product size.
