How it works

Mailer boxes are one-piece folding boxes with a hinged lid, usually made from E-flute corrugated board. They're the standard for subscription boxes and branded e-commerce packaging because they open neatly and print well inside and out.

Because the product often sits in an insert or tissue rather than loose fill, mailers need much less clearance than shipping boxes. An eighth of an inch per side suits products in their own packaging; allow more if you're adding tissue, crinkle paper or an insert. For fragile products, consider a foam insert or ship inside an outer carton.

Mailers are strongest when they're low and wide. Past about 6 inches deep, a regular shipping box is usually cheaper and sturdier.
